About AGNC Investment Corp.

AGNC Investment Corp. is a mortgage real estate investment trust that provides private capital to the U.S. residential housing market. The company invests primarily in residential mortgage pass-through securities and collateralized mortgage obligations backed by principal and interest payment guarantees from government-sponsored enterprises such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, or U.S. government agencies. As a REIT, the company is required to distribute at least 90% of its taxable income to stockholders and is not subject to federal or state corporate income taxes on distributed earnings.

The company's revenue is generated through net interest income on its mortgage-backed securities portfolio, which constitutes its primary business segment. AGNC does not originate mortgages or engage in traditional lending activities; instead, it purchases and holds agency mortgage-backed securities in a managed portfolio. The company operates with a lean staffing structure of 54 full-time employees and maintains its headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. AGNC's geographic reach is national, as it invests in mortgage securities across the entire U.S. residential lending market.

AGNC was incorporated in 2008 and operates under the regulatory framework governing REITs and mortgage investment companies. The company was previously known as American Capital Agency Corp. before changing its name in September 2016.
