The company operates primarily as a credit reporting agency and data aggregator, offering consumer and commercial credit information, credit scoring and modeling, fraud detection and prevention, identity verification, and related consulting services. It also provides workforce solutions that enable employers and third parties to verify employment history, income, educational credentials, criminal justice records, and professional licensure.

The company operates through three business segments. Workforce Solutions provides employment and income verification services, along with human resources process automation and outsourcing for employers. U.S. Information Solutions (USIS) delivers consumer and commercial credit information services, credit monitoring products, mortgage services, financial marketing services, and identity management offerings. The International segment provides similar credit and commercial information services across markets outside the United States, alongside debt collection and recovery management support.

Equifax maintains operations across North and South America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, with an established presence in over 20 countries including Canada, Brazil, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, and India. The company employs approximately 15,000 full-time employees and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1899, it remains one of the three largest consumer credit reporting agencies in the United States.
