The company acquires, explores, develops, and produces crude oil, natural gas, condensate, and natural gas liquids across the United States. Its asset portfolio consists of partial interests in producing wells and leasehold mineral, royalty, and other interests spread across a geographically diverse set of properties.

The company maintains operations in fourteen states, including major oil and gas producing regions such as Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, as well as secondary producing areas in Arkansas, Wyoming, Kansas, Colorado, Montana, Virginia, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Ohio. Mexco operates with a minimal staff of two full-time employees, reflecting a lean operational structure typical of some independent E&P companies that rely on contractor networks and partnerships for development and production activities. The company was incorporated in Colorado in 1972 and changed its name to Mexco Energy Corporation in 1980, having previously operated as Miller Oil Company.
