The company's operations are organized into two primary segments. Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) serves approximately 6 million customer accounts representing roughly 12 million people across the east and lower west coasts of Florida, providing regulated electric utility services. The NextEra Energy Resources (NEER) segment operates generation facilities, including renewables, nuclear, and natural gas assets, along with battery storage facilities that serve the wholesale energy market across the United States and Canada. NEER also owns and operates electric and gas transmission assets and natural gas pipelines.

Beyond electricity generation and distribution, NextEra participates in energy-related commodity trading and markets and engages in natural gas, natural gas liquids, and oil production. The company was founded in 1925 as Florida Power & Light and incorporated under its current name in 2010. Headquarters are located in Juno Beach, Florida.
