OPENLANE operates a digital marketplace platform for wholesale used vehicles across North America and Europe. The company facilitates vehicle transactions between commercial sellers—including vehicle manufacturers, financial institutions, car rental companies, and independent dealerships—and retail and commercial buyers. The OPENLANE platform and its mobile app enable dealers to list and source inventory while providing ancillary services including transportation logistics, vehicle inspection and certification, reconditioning, titling administration, and collateral recovery.

The company's operations are organized into two segments. The Marketplace segment encompasses the core wholesale vehicle platform, logistics operations at physical centers, and SaaS-based private label solutions for manufacturers and captive finance companies seeking to digitally remarketing vehicles. This segment also delivers value-added services including inbound and outbound logistics, vehicle inspection, and administrative services. The Finance segment provides floorplan financing to independent vehicle dealers, liquidity for customer trade-ins, and title services.

OPENLANE operates across the United States, Canada, Continental Europe, and the United Kingdom with approximately 4,032 full-time employees. The company is headquartered in Carmel, Indiana and trades on the NYSE under the ticker OPLN. It was incorporated in Delaware in 2006 and assumed its current name in May 2023, following a rebranding from KAR Auction Services, Inc.
