The company operates through two primary segments: Investor Services and Advisor Services. Investor Services serves individual traders and investors through self-directed platforms with integrated web, mobile, and software-based trading tools, along with real-time market data and research capabilities. Advisor Services caters to financial advisors through recordkeeping for equity compensation plans, retirement plan administration, mutual fund clearing, and advisory support tools.

Headquartered in Westlake, Texas, Schwab operates approximately 33,000 full-time employees across branch offices in the United States and international locations. The company was incorporated in Delaware and founded in 1971.
