Its investment banking division advises on mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and private placements, while its municipal finance operations support public sector financing needs.

The company is organized into three operating segments: Global Wealth Management, which serves individual and institutional clients through brokerage and advisory services; Institutional Group, which provides trading, research, and capital markets services; and Other operations. Beyond capital markets activities, Stifel maintains a retail and commercial banking subsidiary offering personal and commercial lending, deposit accounts, and related banking products. The company also participates in corporate and public finance underwritings.

Stifel operates with approximately 8,900 full-time employees and maintains its headquarters in Saint Louis, Missouri. The company was founded in 1890 and is incorporated in Delaware, with shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
