TransAlta Corporation is an independent power producer that develops, operates, and markets electrical generation capacity across Canada, the United States, and Australia. Wind and Solar represents the largest segment by capacity at roughly 2,057 megawatts of net ownership interest across Canada and seven U.S. states, including battery storage facilities. Gas generation accounts for approximately 2,775 megawatts of net ownership interest located in Alberta, Ontario, Michigan, and Western Australia. The Energy Transition segment manages approximately 671 megawatts of coal-based capacity and mine reclamation activities. Energy Marketing handles commodity trading operations across multiple jurisdictions.

With 1,165 full-time employees and headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, TransAlta maintains a geographically diversified asset base spanning three countries. The company was founded in 1909, positioning it among North America's longer-established utility operators in the independent power generation sector.
