The company's three operating segments reflect its diversified business model. Sempra California serves approximately 6.9 million customers across 4,100 square miles in Southern California and part of central California, operating natural gas distribution, transmission, and storage systems that extend across 24,000 square miles and supply 21.1 million people. Sempra Texas Utilities operates a substantial transmission network comprising 18,324 circuit miles of transmission lines and a distribution system with approximately 4 million customer connections, featuring 125,975 miles of overhead and underground lines. The Sempra Infrastructure segment develops and invests in energy infrastructure projects across the United States, Mexico, and other international markets.

The company operates with approximately 16,773 full-time employees and maintains headquarters in San Diego, California. Sempra was incorporated in California in 1996 and trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SRE. The company rebranded from Sempra Energy to Sempra in May 2023.
